(By Robert Weisz, former IAE Aix director, and founder of the International Seminars)
Since 1994, three times a year, the IAE Aix organises its International Seminars, inviting 40 professors, from all over the world --- 15 different nationalities in 2009 -Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa to New Zealand, Australia, USA or Portugal…--- to give a 3 day seminar opened to Masters and MBA participants.
Each invited professor proposes the topic he/she wants for his/her seminar, taught in English and using very interactive training methods. That gives the opportunity to the invited professors to develop completely innovative seminars, which, in principle, would not find their place in a normal Masters curriculum.
If we quote the titles of some of these seminars, we at once have a idea of the freedom and the creativity involved in their conception :
“Gandhi, his Thought and Management”,
“Management Learning from the Arts”
“Philosophy and Business”
“Conducting Business in Russia”
“Macro-Economics for Dummies”
“Design for the other Worlds”, etc…
In fact, they are openness seminars, designed to be potentially attractive for all participants from very diversified programmes (for instance, HRM Masters as well as Applied Marketing, International Finance, Internal Audit as well as Executive MBA…) and with various working experience, from 1 to 30 years.
The International Seminars are a remarkable tool to develop the cross-discipline exchanges within the school and to expose all IAE students to very diverse teaching approaches.
For our students, they represent a great cross-cultural experience.
